Snow Bunnies

DAY1:
My sculpture is a bunny made out of snow. There are a lot of bunnies in my neighborhood, and it had just snowed so I decided to make a bunny out of the snow that had fallen the night before. I chose snow because I have worked with snow before and I understand it enough to work with it effectively.

DAY 2:
The sun was hot that days so the bunny had melted slightly. I unfortunately had put the sculpture on the sunniest side of the house, but even though it melted a little it still held its bunny shape.

DAY 3:

By the third day the sun had melted it completely. There was nothing left of the snow bunny.

Leaf Kite

 I made a kite out of leaves and pine needles for my Andy Goldsworthy project. I chose a kite because I always flew kites in my backyard as a kid. Whenever I wanted to take my mind off of something that bothered me, my father would offer to get my favorite kite out and fly it with me. Unfortunately, the kite got torn badly in a storm one day, but I still have a deep connect to kites. I made the kite out of freshly picked leaves off of a tree in my backyard, and I threaded them together with pine needles from a nearby pine tree. Also, the sap from the needles acted as a glue to hold the needles and leaves together. Once I was done making a line of threaded leaves, I stuck it on a tree and pinned the two ends together using a pine needle. I pinned it just below the middle so the leaves could make it look like the top half was attached to a string. I took this picture right after I finished the kite in my backyard.


                                                          Day 1

 I came back the next day to check on my kite and it held up better than I thought. It stormed the night before so I was afraid that it had completely blown away; however, it survived. The sap really helped it stay together although one end broke off. It was swaying in the wind when I took this picture which I thought gave it more of a kite effect. I sure hope the kite holds up for a lot longer!

                                                          Day 2

 Well I guess all kites have to come down some day. It lasted a lot longer than I had thought.  Now its just a pile of leaves on the ground that nature will carry onto another location. I took this picture 4 days after I originally put up the artwork. This project was a lot of fun to do and to see how it progressed until it died.

Tree

 

 Day 1

I chose to make a mini apple tree, because when I was younger, I remember going over to my Grandparents house, where they had a sour apple tree in their backyard. Me and my little sister always liked picking the apples and throwing them at the trunk. I made this in my backyard. The stick and the leaves were from other trees in my yard, and the little berries were from a bush next to my deck.

 

Day 2

On the second day, all of the berries had fallen off, and were on the ground next to the stick. Some of the leaves were still on the branch, but not many of them.

 Day 3

On the third day, there were still some leaves on the branch, but the stick had fallen over, because it rained, so the ground became soft.

Leaf Bird

 

      

 

To create this I used two different type of leaves, the species I am not sure, pine needles and a berry. I took three leaves sewing it together with pine needles. I then hung it with a string. I was inspired by the changing season with the leaves falling, and the birds migrating. The leaves that fall ultimately decompose over time returning back to earth. Meanwhile birds migrate south during fall to avoid the cold winter weather. I created a bird out of the leaves to represent flight and life. I purposefully used the green leaves so it was still living, and the red berry to create a "Heart". These leaves tell a story of survival and death.

Over all it still looks the same, the picture was taken from a different angle.

The leaves started to shrivel, one of the wing came off.

 

Arrowhead

DAY 1

For my project I went to Indian Run Falls behind Sells middle school.  I created an arrowhead out of stones I found on the banks of the stream. The arrowhead is in the middle of the stream on a large flat stone so it isn't completely submerged by water. I created an arrowhead because it represents the Native American heritage of Ohio and of our specific area.  It only took me about an hour to find all of the stones and create it.

 

DAY 2

I returned the day after and nothing much had changed. The water was a little deeper and some leaves had fallen onto it but besides that it was the exact same.

 

DAY 3

Two days later I returned but at night this time. It is hard to see but all of the stones had been pushed to the very back and some were missing. You could not make out the shape of the arrowhead I had created days earlier. I believe that an animal or a human had destroyed it because if it was the stream that moved it , the stones would have been pushed to the front instead of the back.

 

 

Nature Sculpture

For my project I decided to make a pumpkin out of orange and red leaves, I surrounded the leaves with ornamental grass from my backyard.  I sprinkled mulch on the leaves because when I first made it without the mulch the leaves blew away too easily so I figured mulch would help weigh them down.  I made a pumpkin because its fall time and I love fall and thanksgiving and every fall I go pumpkin patch picking so when I saw the orange leaves I knew I wanted to make a pumpkin!!

On the second day the pumpkin was still pretty well put together.  A few leaves had blown away and the grass around the leaves had moved a little but other then that the pumpkin looked pretty much the same.

On the third day many of the leaves had blown away, the grass had stayed in the same place, I was surprised that a majority of it was still there.

    DAY 1: I choose to make a tree because there is a lot of trees in my back yard.  I took some branches from a tree and broke them up to make a smaller version of a tree. Then I picked up some dead leaves from the ground and placed them on top.

 DAY 2: some of the leaves blew away

DAY 3: more leaves blew away and some of the branches moved. I'm guessing my dogs leash messed it up too.

Rebirth Tree

I made a "rebirth" tree. I decided to use the leaves in my backyard, and I realized how sad it was that the leaves fell because the weather is getting colder. So I took the leaves in my backyard and taped them to one of my trees. I did this because it was hope to almost bring life back into the tree. It symbolizes autumn changing the leaves to winter making them fall. This photo was taken after I assembled it at 11:00 in the morning.

At 2:30, there was a noticeable difference in the amount of leaves still on the tree. At least half fell off assumably from the cold wind.

By 5:00, the wind had calmed, and it seems to be that only one leaf fell. This experience made me wish it was still fall, but winter is coming fast and no one can escape it. We can only wait for the rebirth of the trees in the spring.

Fall Beauty

I decided to decorate a tree stump with red, yellow and brown colored things found in my back yard.  The reason I chose to use red, yellow and brown colored materials is because, during the time of this project it was Fall and during fall, my backyard is  full of those colors! First I used these red berries and smashed them and decided to spread them on the stump to use as a glue like substance. Once the glue was spread, I stuck red berries, yellow leaves and brown leaves all on  stump creating sort of a color wheel.  This whole process took me a while because the win kept blowing everything off of the stump.

This is the day after I finished this masterpiece.  The "glue" worked well in keeping the berries on the stump but the leaves struggled to stay on.  I was very suprised the berries stayed on the stump, I thought maybe a bird would have eaten them.




This was the 2nd day after I had finished the piece.  As you can see more leaves have fallen off and about a third of the berries had now fallen off.  I am beginning to think that because of the freezing temperatures, the "glue" may have frozen and become very fragile making easier for the wind to blow everything off.


I did not snap a picture on the 3rd day because the stump was now bare.  This leads me to believe the freezing temps played a role in how well the natural adhesive held the materials to the stump.

Nature Sculpture

Day 1

I made my sculpture in my backyard, on top of a stone wall that's around the edge of our patio. In the summer and spring, very very tall weeds tend to grow in our backyard around the mulched areas. When they die in the winter they usually lean and bend over onto the ground, turning brown as they die. I chose to replicate the dead weeds with brown leaves and twigs. 

Day 2

On the second day my sculpture is still there, though some of the smaller leaves have been blown away. One of the twigs has been displaced as well.

Day 3

On the third day parts of my nature sculpture are there, however only about half of the materials remained. Most of the larger and dry leaves have been blown away, while some of the wet leaves have clung to the stone. The twigs have entirely been displaced, with none of them remaining in their original position.

Memorial Golf Tournament

Day 1

Well my idea was to try and make something that had represented the memorial golf tournament. This was significant to me because Dublin is very well known for this golf tournament, I also chose to do this because I have been going to the tournament every year since I was four. I based my idea off of the second picture. I mad the sticks to try and replicate golf clubs because I couldnt make the trophy in the middle. Then the leaves going around it clearly represent the leaves around the trophy. I made this on the walkway up to my front door step. I know there isnt a lot of materials being used and its not to colorful because all the leaves are dead now butttttttttttttt I got all of the materials in my front yard.

Day 2

On day two the leaves that had gone around the "golf clubs" were blown away. The good thing though is that some of the leaves stayed and that the "golf clubs" were still perfectly fine.

Day 3

On the third and final day all the leaves had been completely blown away. There was not one even left on the walkway. I guess the sticks were definitely heavy enough  to with stand the winds because they hadn't move the whole time throughout this process.

Sanctuary

Day 1

In my sculpture I used the meanings of the different plants around my backyard to symbolize different parts of my personality. The rose hip in the very center is for joyfulness.  The queen Anne's lace around it is sanctuary as in my inner piece of mind.  Around that is pine which symbolizes my strength both physically and mentally.  Around the pine is just some decorative leave from a bush I found.  The poplar leaves around that, however, symbolizes my sometimes lack of self confidence and loneliness, as well as my more bright side like artistic nature, organization and reliability.  Around that is oak leaves that symbolize the strength of my outside but on the inside I'm not so strong.  But on the very outer, the honeysuckle, symbolizes my affection and love for those I care about.  All the elements were found in my backyard including the stump!

Day 2

Oh no I got my feet in the shot!  Well on day two the wind blew most of the sassafras leaves off of the outer ring but the rest of it still seems pretty much in tact!

Day 3

Well the wind blew away more of the leaves that's for sure.  Other that that the poplar leaves and queen Anne's lace have begun to shrivel up.  I'm surprised on how well it's stayed in tact for the past 3 days!
